Education was everything to Gary. The Gary D. Holmes Smile Scholarship Endowment was created by his family to honor that belief and to help graduating student-athletes in the community Gary called home take the next step toward their goals.
Each year, the scholarship awards multiple graduating high school student-athletes to help them continue their education. Award amounts vary and may be used for any valid school-related expense.
The scholarship has been proudly affiliated with the Arkansas Community Foundation since 2009.
To be considered for the Gary D. Holmes Smile Scholarship Endowment, applicants must meet all of the following:
School: Be a graduating senior of any school in Mississippi County Arkansas.
Athletics: Have participated in high school athletics.
Continuing Education: Be entering an accredited two-year or four-year college or university, vocational school, or trade school in the United States.
Applications for the Gary D. Holmes Smile Scholarship are submitted through the Arkansas Community Foundation. ARCF manages a single, streamlined scholarship application that allows students to be considered for the Gary D. Holmes Smile Scholarship along with many other Arkansas scholarships.
2026 applications are now closed. The application period closed on March 1, 2026.
Applications typically open each fall and close on March 1. Interested students are encouraged to watch the ARCF scholarship page for the 2027 application window.
Every dollar raised goes toward scholarships for local student-athletes. There are two ways to support the Gary D. Holmes Smile Scholarship Endowment:
Join us on June 6, 2026 at Thunder Bayou Golf Links. Register a team, sponsor a hole, or donate a raffle prize. Every entry and every sponsorship goes directly toward the scholarship fund.
Contribute directly to the endowment at any time through the Arkansas Community Foundation.
